Kirkham Grammar School has entered an exciting period of growth following its acquisition by an international education organisation with a strong record of investing in schools. The partnership secures long-term support for the independent school while creating fresh opportunities to strengthen its educational offering and enhance the experience of pupils.
The new owner, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi Sanstha (MMYS), oversees schools in India, Australia and the United States. The organisation is guided by experienced academics, researchers and innovators who champion an educational philosophy that combines academic achievement with wellbeing, creativity, leadership and personal development.
The school will be managed through Kirkham Grammar International School Limited, a company created by MMYS to provide effective governance, financial stability and continued educational excellence.
Kirkham Grammar School will continue to build on its strong academic reputation, rich heritage and outstanding pastoral care while benefiting from investment across its campus, boarding provision, sporting facilities, technology, staff development and international links. Pupils will have access to wider global opportunities, including cultural exchanges and collaborative learning in areas such as STEM, engineering and innovation.
The organisation has also confirmed its commitment to working alongside the existing Senior Leadership Team, ensuring continuity while respecting the school’s long-established traditions and values.
Headteacher Mrs Kirsten O’Donoghue said: “This is a proud moment for Kirkham Grammar School. Our history, values and reputation have been built over many generations, and this investment gives us the opportunity to preserve those qualities while enhancing the educational experience for current and future pupils.”
An MMYS spokesperson said: “It is an honour to become the custodian of a school with such a distinguished history. We are committed to supporting its future through investment, educational excellence and collaboration while ensuring its traditions remain at the heart of everything we do.”
Chair of Governors Mr Paul Ribchester said the Governing Board had carefully assessed the school’s long-term financial position before deciding that new ownership offered the best path forward. Rising operating costs, inflation, increased employer National Insurance contributions and VAT on independent school fees had all contributed to that decision. He added that the acquisition provides a secure foundation for the school’s future.
A series of new educational developments will be introduced during the next academic year. Parents interested in places for children aged 2 to 18 can contact Admissions Manager Mrs Joanne Hunt at [email protected] for further information.
