England Lioness Ella Toone opens new community-led personal training gym in Knutsford

England Lioness and Manchester United midfielder Ella Toone officially opened a new small-group personal training gym in Knutsford this week, lending her support to an approach to fitness that prioritises confidence, coaching, community and long-term wellbeing.

More than 200 guests, including FITISM Knutsford’s inaugural members and local business owners, celebrated the official opening of the gym at the invite-only event. FITISM’s founders and new team provided a glimpse into the gym’s ‘fitness that feels good’ approach that differentiates it from traditional gym environments.

Ella’s involvement follows a period in which she has been training and completing elements of her injury rehabilitation at FITISM’s Wilmslow gym, alongside physiotherapist David Billingsley, former physio to Manchester United. Her experience has reinforced the importance of personalised coaching, accountability and supportive training environments.

Ella Toone said: “Fitness shouldn’t feel intimidating. Not everyone thrives in big gyms, and smaller, coached spaces like this help people feel supported, accountable and motivated. When people feel part of a community, they’re far more likely to enjoy training and stick with it.”

The Knutsford gym, now the fourth FITISM location in the region, was created in response to growing demand for more personal, inclusive fitness spaces, particularly among women and those returning to exercise after time away.

Matt Kay, FITISM founder, said: “Ella’s connection with FITISM goes beyond today’s opening and having her here to mark the launch means a huge amount, not just because of who she is, but because her values around confidence, commitment and community align so closely with what we’re trying to build. This is about creating a space where people feel supported – and part of a team – from day one. We’re building a community that’s redefining how people experience and feel about fitness.”

The opening event gave attendees and guests including the Mayor of Knutsford Cllr Bryan Hartley a first-hand look at how small-group personal training works in practice.

Matt Kay added: “At FITISM, we believe fitness should feel good – physically, mentally, and emotionally. Every session lifts you up, every coach has your back, and every member belongs. Because when fitness feels good, everything else follows: your performance, your mindset, and your sense of belonging.

“We specialise in small group personal training, giving you expert coaching, tailored support, and real results in a friendly, motivating environment. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your training to the next level, FITISM is the place to train, feel good, and belong.”

The gym is now open and welcoming new members from Knutsford and the surrounding area: https://www.fitism.co.uk/gyms
