Cheshire Set to Lead the UK in Adopting County-Wide Phone-Free Schools

UK Phone Pouches supports Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioners and Esther Ghey initiative to support safer, smarter school environments and donates phone pouches to all Free School Meal Students in Cheshire Schools.

UK Phone Pouches has announced a substantial new contribution toward Cheshire’s plan to become the first county in the UK where every secondary school operates without student phone use during the school day.

The effort reflects rising concerns about the consequences of extensive smartphone access among young people, including disruptions to academic focus, incidents of bullying online, exposure to harmful media, and safeguarding concerns linked to the recording and sharing of images or video.

UK Phone Pouches was founded in response to the real-world challenges witnessed by parents, teachers, and pastoral staff, offering a reliable and cost-effective solution to reduce the negative influence of smartphones in educational settings.

For many years, UK schools have been charged excessive prices for pouches that frequently lack durability and key protective features such as signal shielding or resistance to graffiti. UK Phone Pouches was created to solve this problem, promoting Better Pouches, Better Prices and Better Support and ensuring that financial constraints do not prevent schools from implementing strong phone-free safeguarding policies.

In support of the Cheshire programme, UK Phone Pouches assisted with the Police and Crime Commissioner’s engagement event with local secondary schools, where a fully phone-free experience was delivered by having all attendees secure their mobile devices in pouches upon arrival.

To accelerate Cheshire’s journey to 100 percent phone free status, UK Phone Pouches has introduced an exclusive package for Cheshire schools. This includes:

  • Free donated phone pouches for all students receiving Free School Meals (FSM)
A fixed discounted price for all Cheshire secondary schools, regardless of student population size
  • This support is designed to make phone free learning achievable for every school (not just State Secondary Schools) and every child, not just those schools with larger budgets.

Mark Payne, Director of UK Phone Pouches, said: “Our mission has always been simple: stop schools being overcharged for inferior pouches and make effective phone safety affordable for everyone. Cheshire is leading the way nationally. With our donation combined with better pouches, better prices and better support, we are proud to help the county protect students, support teachers and create safer learning environments.”

UK Phone Pouches is already working with more than 100 schools across the UK, delivering high quality, signal blocking pouches that eliminate loopholes often found in alternatives. The company continues to expand support for schools, local authorities and youth safety initiatives committed to reducing mobile phone related harm.
