Transense and Unison collaboration demonstrates advances in future aircraft propulsion

BICESTER, UK. September 2nd, 2026Transense Technologies plc, the UK developer of advanced sensing technologies, and Unison, a GE Aerospace company, are highlighting the progress made through their collaboration to advance torque measurement technology for emerging aerospace propulsion applications.

The technology contributed to the first hybrid-electric flight at an altitude exceeding 30,000 feet and the first hybrid-electric transatlantic flight, achievements presented at the prestigious Farnborough International Airshow.

The application integrated Transense’s SAWsense torque sensing technology with Unison’s capabilities in aerospace engineering, industrialisation, qualification, and system integration.

Transense provided the underlying sensing platform, with Unison adapting and further developing the technology for use in the airborne demonstration at one of the aerospace industry’s leading events.

The demonstration represents further progress toward technologies that could support more efficient hybrid-electric propulsion architectures in future aircraft.
