Membership Bespoke and Apprentago Introduce Sector Futures to Expand Trade Association Services

Trade associations looking to broaden their member benefits and diversify income now have a new option through Sector Futures, a partnership launched by Membership Bespoke and Apprentago. The initiative gives associations a way to connect businesses with apprenticeship candidates, relevant funding guidance and specialist training, helping employers develop their workforce while opening up a potential commercial opportunity for the associations that represent them.

The partnership is designed to make apprenticeship support more accessible to member businesses without placing the responsibility for running a dedicated apprenticeship service on the association itself.

When members take up the available services, participating associations may benefit from an additional revenue stream. The potential value will depend on the organisation’s membership, expected engagement and the commercial terms agreed. Associations can use an online calculator to explore illustrative scenarios.

The initiative launches against a backdrop of rising apprenticeship participation in England. Department for Education data shows 308,770 starts between August 2025 and April 2026, an increase of 8.7% compared with the previous year. More than 50% of starters were aged 25 or over.

Funding can make apprenticeships a more accessible option for eligible employers. In England, certain businesses may qualify for government support covering the full cost of eligible training and assessment, while further hiring payments can be available where specific conditions are met.

Trade associations already have the industry knowledge and established business relationships needed to help employers explore these opportunities. The Trade Association Forum (TAF) identifies close to 1,000 active trade associations across the UK. Its membership includes more than 180 associations, collectively representing 200,000 businesses across sectors such as manufacturing, construction, transport and professional services.

Yet delivering practical apprenticeship support can require specialist expertise, recruitment capacity and knowledge of funding rules that many associations do not have internally.

Sector Futures is intended to help associations extend their support without the expense and complexity of creating an in-house apprenticeship operation.

The partnership connects member businesses with candidate attraction, apprentice recruitment, funding guidance, industry-relevant training and ongoing assistance from the initial enquiry through to the apprentice’s start date.

Associations can therefore broaden their member offering while exploring a new way to generate income from services their members value.

A partnership built around member needs

Sector Futures brings Membership Bespoke’s more than 15 years of experience working with trade associations together with Apprentago’s nationwide apprenticeship platform, candidate attraction expertise and network of specialist training providers.

The combined approach is intended to simplify the process for employers and give associations an additional way to respond to member priorities around recruitment, skills development and workforce planning.

Dennis Howes, Co-Founder of Membership Bespoke, said: “Having worked closely with trade associations for more than 15 years, particularly around recruitment and talent, we hear first-hand about the skills and workforce challenges facing both associations and the industries they represent.

“Trade associations are in a unique position because they know their industries, understand where skills gaps are emerging and already have trusted relationships with the organisations trying to solve them.

“Sector Futures gives them a practical way to use that position to help their members find apprentices, understand and access available funding and navigate the process without the association having to build an apprenticeship service itself.

“Importantly, it can also create an additional source of revenue for the association at the same time as delivering something of genuine value to its members.”

Carlo Weaver, Founder & CEO of Apprentago, added: “SMEs are the lifeblood of the British economy, yet many businesses that could benefit from taking on an apprentice simply do not know where to start, how to access funding or who can support them with training.

“At Apprentago, we believe every young person should know which employers in their local area are offering apprenticeships, and every employer should have a straightforward way to find and develop the next generation of talent.

“Through Sector Futures, we’re bringing those two worlds together by working with trade associations that already have trusted relationships with thousands of businesses across the UK.

“It makes sense socially and commercially. We are helping people access opportunities, supporting employers to grow through apprenticeships and enabling trade associations to be financially rewarded for helping to make that happen.”

Opening apprenticeship opportunities to a wider workforce

Apprenticeships are not limited to people starting their first job. They can also help experienced workers build new capabilities and support individuals moving into different occupations.

Department for Education figures show that 161,670 apprenticeship starts in England between August 2025 and April 2026 involved people aged 25 and over. That represents 52.4% of all starts and a 17.5% annual increase.

Through its network of training providers, Sector Futures supports access to apprenticeship options across industries, including programmes delivered by providers specialising in particular sectors and occupations. Eligibility depends on the relevant programme and funding arrangements.

Helping employers navigate apprenticeship funding

Available support varies according to the employer’s circumstances, the apprentice’s age and the programme being undertaken. All funding is subject to the relevant rules and eligibility criteria.

Eligible non-levy-paying employers in England can receive full government funding for training and assessment for apprentices aged 16 to 24, up to the relevant funding band maximum. For apprentices aged 25 and over, the standard government contribution is 95%.[2]

Further support may include £1,000 payments for certain eligible apprentices and foundation apprenticeship incentives. Under the October 2026 policy, qualifying apprenticeship starts can also attract a £2,000 hiring payment.

Assessing the opportunity for your association

Sector Futures gives associations the opportunity to consider the potential financial return alongside the practical benefits to members.

The online calculator allows each association to model indicative revenue using its own membership figures and expected participation. The resulting estimates are not guaranteed returns, as the outcome will depend on actual member take-up and the commercial terms agreed.

Membership Bespoke is inviting trade associations to discuss how Sector Futures could support their sector, strengthen their member proposition and create a potential additional source of income.
