The Transformation of The Food Allergy Immunotherapy Centre into the “Allergy Centre of Excellence”

In a landmark development in allergy treatment, The Food Allergy Immunotherapy Centre has been renamed the “Allergy Centre of Excellence”. This new identity highlights our unwavering dedication to leading innovations in the treatment and management of food allergies.

Enhanced Focus on Clinical Superiority and Patient-Centric Care

Previously operating as The Food Allergy Immunotherapy Centre, the newly named Allergy Centre of Excellence has intensified its focus on clinical superiority and patient-centric care. This shift is demonstrated by its expanded service range and a steadfast commitment to safety and effective treatment protocols. Established by esteemed Professors Gideon Lack, Adam Fox, and George Du Toit, the centre is at the forefront of paediatric allergy care, particularly highlighted by its adoption of PALFORZIA, an FDA-approved therapy for peanut allergies that marks a significant shift in allergy management strategies.

The rebranding reflects a widened scope aimed at providing comprehensive allergy care, upholding the highest safety standards, and adopting a patient-first approach that meets the complex needs of individuals and families dealing with severe allergies.

Revolutionising Allergy Treatment with PALFORZIA

The introduction of PALFORZIA in 2020, the first licensed food immunotherapy treatment in both the US and Europe, was a pivotal moment that influenced our rebranding. This treatment signifies a fundamental change from avoidance to proactive protection against allergens, making it a cornerstone of our expanded treatment offerings, particularly through our partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital which provides top-notch facilities for safe allergen administration.

Expanding Services to Address Increasing Demands

To address the growing challenge of severe food allergies, the Allergy Centre of Excellence has broadened its desensitisation treatments to include not only PALFORZIA but also almond, cashew, hazelnut, sesame, wheat, milk and walnut. These new treatments utilize the latest developments in oral immunotherapy (OIT), which have proven effective in desensitisation, thus enhancing safety and quality of life for children with allergies.

A Process Guided by Integrity and Empathy

Our approach to allergy desensitisation is rigorous and patient-focused, emphasizing shared decision-making and giving families all necessary information to make educated choices about their treatment paths. Our protocols are carefully crafted to ensure safety and effectiveness, guiding patients from assessment through to the maintenance phase of treatment.

Looking Ahead: A Future Focused on Innovation and Care

As the Allergy Centre of Excellence, we look forward to leading the way in future innovations in allergy treatment. Our ethos is rooted in empathy, clinical excellence, integrity, respect, and teamwork. We remain committed to advancing allergy care, continually driven by our goal to enhance patient lives and establish new benchmarks in healthcare excellence.
