XIMEA Unveils Ultra-High Resolution 245.7MP Camera Powered by Sony’s IMX811 Sensor

XIMEA has once again pushed the boundaries of imaging technology with the debut of its new MX2457 camera, joining the xiX-XL line-up. Equipped with Sony’s 4.1-inch IMX811 sensor and delivering a phenomenal 245.7 MP resolution, this camera is designed for professionals who demand exceptional image fidelity.

At the heart of the MX2457 is the high-throughput PCIe interface, which enables rapid data transfer with minimal delay—perfect for industries requiring precision and speed. Its high-resolution capability, paired with advanced sensitivity, positions it as a top choice for detailed inspection and wide-area mapping.

Key Specifications:

Maximum Detail Capture: The camera produces ultra-sharp images at 19200 x 12800 pixels, supporting complex tasks like videogrammetry, photogrammetry, and fine-detail 3D modelling.

Backside Illumination for High Efficiency: The BSI sensor design significantly improves light collection, offering quantum efficiency rates above 80%—especially beneficial in low-light or high-contrast conditions.

Speed and Performance: Transmitting over 10 high-resolution frames per second via a 32 Gbit interface, the camera is engineered for real-time workflows in demanding industrial settings.

Medium Format, Compact Body: Featuring a 64 mm sensor diagonal within an 80 x 80 mm enclosure, the camera provides a balance of size and capability, allowing straightforward integration into existing systems.

PCIe Gen 3 with Direct Memory Access: The use of DMA technology reduces CPU strain and ensures low-latency transfers, making it suitable for synchronised multi-camera operations.

Sensor Head Flexibility: A unique feature is the detachable sensor head, which helps reduce thermal interference and supports flexible installation in space-restricted environments.

Cooling Systems: While a fan module provides standard cooling, users can opt for a water-cooling system for vibration-sensitive setups or enhanced thermal control.

Lens Mount Options: Starting with M72 and EF mounts, the system will expand to include active Hasselblad options, giving users electronic control over key lens functions.

Available Models:

Applications at a Glance:

Optimised for photogrammetry and aerial mapping, the MX2457 excels in high-precision data capture for use in agriculture, city planning, and geographic surveying.

Other use cases:

  • Machine vision – Solar panel, wafer, and electronics inspection

  • Life sciences – Neuroscience, OCT imaging, microscopy

  • Scientific exploration – Material research, astrophysics, and aerospace

  • Security – Facial recognition, perimeter surveillance, and crowd monitoring

Highest 245.7 MPix resolution, detachable sensor head, attractive price and exceptional image quality make these cameras a clear choice for various applications.
