Thirty Years of Vision Care Leadership Celebrated by Centre for Sight in East Grinstead

East Grinstead played host to an international gathering of eye care specialists as Centre for Sight celebrated 30 years of advancing vision treatment. The anniversary occasion brought together experts from across the ophthalmology world to explore future developments that could transform patient outcomes.

Founded in 1996 by consultant ophthalmic surgeon Sheraz M. Daya, Centre for Sight organised a dedicated conference featuring leading surgeons, clinicians, innovators and entrepreneurs involved in shaping modern eye care.

Taking place at Alexander House Hotel in West Sussex, the conference, “30 Years of Vision: Crafting the Next Decade”, examined how ophthalmology has evolved during the last three decades. Discussions centred on emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, next-generation laser systems, advanced diagnostics and new approaches to delivering healthcare services.

Centre for Sight has spent the past 30 years helping drive progress in cataract and refractive surgery, earning recognition for its commitment to innovation, specialist expertise and patient-focused treatment.

The event attracted leading voices from across the global eye care sector, helping to reinforce East Grinstead’s reputation for excellence in ophthalmology. Celebrations continued with a black-tie dinner where Katie Piper addressed guests. Piper is a television presenter, author, campaigner and founder of the Katie Piper Foundation who received successful treatment at Centre for Sight.

Featured speakers included Arthur Cummings, Erik Mertens, Amanda Carones, Francesco Carones, Michael Mrochen, Milind Pande, Pei Fen Lin, Aylin Kiliç, Andrea Russo, Andrew Webb, Saj Khan and Sheraz Daya.

The programme examined topics such as the future of refractive and cataract procedures, AI-assisted clinical decisions, changing patient expectations, private healthcare innovation and breakthrough technologies expected to influence the sector in coming years.

Sheraz M. Daya, Founder and Medical Director of Centre for Sight, said:

“Over the past 30 years ophthalmology has seen remarkable transformation driven by technology, research and the dedication of clinicians committed to improving vision and quality of life. This conference is an opportunity to reflect on that journey, share insights with colleagues and look ahead to the innovations that will define the next decade of patient care. East Grinstead has become an important centre for advanced eye care. We are proud to bring world class expertise to Sussex and to continue helping patients access the latest developments in vision treatment.”

Founded in 1996, Centre for Sight is regarded as one of the UK’s most established advanced eye care centres. Mr Daya has undertaken more than 35,000 cataract surgeries alongside a similar number of laser eye procedures. The organisation is recognised for tackling complex cases, adopting innovative technologies and maintaining a strong focus on safety and clinical excellence.
