Beeston Village Gains Life-Saving Defibrillator for Community Use

More than 300 people in Beeston will benefit from a newly installed defibrillator, made available after Eaton Homes positioned the device at its Beeston Market development.

The equipment will serve the 84 existing households and future residents of Phase 4, which will comprise nine additional properties, three apartments, and a local retail unit.

The defibrillator will be accessible not only to homeowners on the estate but also to village residents and contractors who remain on-site during the completion of the development.

This addition forms part of Eaton Homes’ wider commitment to supporting the locations in which it builds, and follows the creation of a new shop that will also be open to those living locally.

Project Manager Claudia Dickens explained the motivation behind the installation. “We understood the importance of having a defibrillator available for residents and our contractors and felt we needed to make that purchase. It’s a vital piece of equipment that could save a life. Knowing that it will remain in the community long after we leave the site makes this investment even more meaningful.”

The decision gained even greater relevance after a long-serving member of Eaton Homes’ workforce, Micky, experienced a serious health emergency prior to his retirement. Although the device was not required at the time, the incident underscored the need for swift access to emergency intervention.

Earlier this year, Micky was diagnosed with coronary heart disease and angina, resulting in major heart surgery including a valve replacement and triple bypass.

“After a collapse, I later learned from my doctor that I’d suffered a minor heart attack,” he says. “It made me realise how important it is that anyone living or working in or around Beeston has immediate access to the right equipment and support should something similar happen to them.”

Claudia added: “When you’re working on a busy development, you quickly realise how many people rely on the site being a safe environment. Micky’s experience made us stop and think about what more we could do. Installing a defibrillator was an obvious decision – not only to give Micky confidence while he was still with us, but to reassure everyone else on site too.”

More than 30,000 cardiac arrests take place outside of hospitals in the UK each year, and the presence of a publicly accessible defibrillator can significantly improve the chance of survival. Eaton Homes says the installation reflects its long-term commitment to residents and community well-being.

“The community is at the heart of the area, and we feel strongly about supporting it wherever we can,” Claudia continued. “Having a defibrillator on-site now, and later accessible in the village, gives real peace of mind for the future.”
