Future Decisions Limited Receives UK Government Grant for AI-Powered Decarbonisation Efforts

Future Decisions Limited is proud to announce its selection as a grant recipient by the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This grant marks a significant step in advancing sustainable technologies under the Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP). The support from this grant will accelerate Future Decisions’ pioneering work in utilising artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve the crucial target of net zero emissions within the built environment.

London, UK – Future Decisions Limited, a trailblazer in AI-driven solutions, has been chosen as a grantee by the UK’s Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This strategic grant is aligned with the government’s dedication to promoting sustainable technologies as part of their Net Zero Innovation Portfolio (NZIP). This collaboration will propel Future Decisions’ revolutionary efforts in employing artificial intelligence (AI) to attain the imperative goal of net zero emissions in the built environment.

The grant, coupled with governmental backing, will expedite the advancement of Future Decisions’ AI-infused solutions. These solutions aim to revolutionise energy management within buildings by integrating an AI overlay into their control systems. Notably, this innovation seamlessly integrates with existing building control systems, obviating the need for extensive hardware investments or costly control reconfigurations. The objective is to address the decarbonisation challenges within the built environment, where AI-powered solutions are pivotal in steering the UK towards its ambitious net zero target by 2050.

Dr. Richard McElligott, Director of Future Decisions Limited, conveyed his satisfaction: “We are thrilled by the endorsement of this grant from the UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This validation underscores our unwavering commitment to harnessing AI as a driving force for substantial change, especially in terms of energy efficiency and sustainability within the built environment.”

AI-Enhanced Building Control: The core of Future Decisions’ endeavours lies in crafting AI algorithms that optimise the efficiency of both new and existing building control systems, consequently enhancing building operational efficiency. This approach revolves around dynamically adjusting heating, cooling, lighting, and ventilation parameters based on real-time occupancy and environmental data, utilising learned models of human and asset behaviour. Promising results have shown potential energy savings approaching 60%, thereby significantly reducing carbon footprints and operational expenses.

Seamless Integration: A fundamental principle guiding Future Decisions’ approach is the integration of AI solutions into existing building infrastructure without necessitating costly upgrades, additional hardware, or rewriting building management system (BMS) logic.

Boosting Grid Stability: An ancillary benefit arising from optimising energy consumption within buildings is the positive impact on grid stability and generation capacity. The AI-powered solutions have the potential to anticipate peak demand surges, align green generation with building requirements, and thus direct demand towards cleaner supply during availability while minimising demand during peak pollution periods.

Dr. Richard further added: “Future Decisions is enthusiastic about playing a significant role in aiding UK industries in slashing carbon emissions and advancing eco-friendly innovation through the application of artificial intelligence (AI). We extend our gratitude to the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero for their grant and acknowledge AECOM for their continued support throughout the project.”
