Innovation Roadshow comes to Halton to support local business growth

Horizons is set to bring its Innovation Roadshow to Halton tomorrow (January 16).

The project set up by Liverpool’s three universities, and funded by the UK government to help SMEs across the city region prosper, is behind the series of events providing businesses with the expertise to accelerate their technological innovation and sustainable practices.

Delivered in partnership with the University of Liverpool’s VEC (Virtual Engineering Centre), Liverpool John Moores University and Edge Hill University, Horizons is the first innovation support programme funded by the Liverpool City Region’s £44m UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

It will support 100 SMEs and provide 30 grant opportunities to help businesses to embrace innovative technologies and support long-term success.

SMEs from across Halton are encouraged to attend to learn how Horizons can support them to accelerate their growth journey.

The Innovation Roadshow will bring together experts from Horizons’ academic institutions, and successful business leaders from Halton including Gerry Weston of DT Engineering and Chris Berg of A2O, who will share their first-hand experience of utilising innovation to support their growth ambitions.

Halton’s Innovation Roadshow takes place at the Heath Business and Technical Park, Runcorn, and will include talks with Rachael Owens of the Halton Chamber and Jim Mooney of the VEC to discuss opportunities available to SMEs for the year ahead.

Andrew Borland, chief innovation officer at the VEC, University of Liverpool, said: “We’re thrilled to bring the Innovation Roadshow to Halton. The Liverpool City Region has always been a place for pioneers, and so we want to build on that and create a blueprint for how innovation can be simplified and used every day to support business growth.

“Innovation can seem like a buzzword, and we know that for many SMEs it can feel daunting, particularly when it comes to the more technical areas. Our goal with the Innovation Roadshow is to create a space where businesses can access the support, knowledge, and connections they need to implement innovation, particularly through technology, to help their business grow.

“We’re encouraging any SME curious to learn more to attend and talk to one of the many experts we have involved in the Horizons project, to see how we can help them.”
