Hancocks Jewellers Honours 165 Years of Heritage and Excellence in Manchester

One of Manchester’s most iconic businesses, Hancocks Jewellers, is celebrating an incredible 165 years of uninterrupted service in the world of luxury jewellery. First established in 1860, the firm remains a benchmark of quality and elegance in the industry.

The boutique continues to be independently operated, offering personalised service and exceptional jewellery from its historic location at 29 King Street. Known for its premium diamonds, rare coloured stones, and bespoke commissions, Hancocks continues to delight generations of discerning clients.

Founded by Josiah Hancock during the height of Manchester’s industrial success, the company started out providing specialist clock-winding services to the city’s wealthy business class. Its rapid success led to a Piccadilly storefront before relocating to King Street, where it has proudly remained for more than 100 years.

“Jewellery styles may evolve, but our commitment to quality, service and beauty never changes,” said Roy Lunt, Owner at Hancocks.

“Celebrating 165 years of heritage in Manchester is a moment of immense pride for the entire team.”

Over the decades, Hancocks has witnessed and helped shape changing design eras, from the gold and gem-set glamour of the 1950s, through the bold abstract designs of the 60s and 70s, to today’s refined focus on exceptional diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires.

Each piece in the current collection continues to be chosen for its rarity and its power to spark emotion. Hancocks has long been recognised internationally as a leading authority in diamonds and precious gemstones, with clientele spanning the UK and abroad.
