New specialist finance partner supports UK charities under mounting financial strain

Charity Accounting Partners (CAP), established by ICAEW Chartered Accountant and former KPMG UK public sector auditor Carl Wakeford, is reshaping outsourced finance and advisory support for charities across the UK.

The firm was created to address a persistent issue within the sector: organisations delivering vital services while operating with finance functions that lack clarity, strategic insight, and reliable support.

Many charities have faced ongoing financial pressure alongside outsourcing arrangements marked by slow responses, limited knowledge of the sector, and reporting focused on compliance rather than organisational impact. CAP aims to provide a different approach.

“Our charity sector deserves better,” said Carl Wakeford, Founder of Charity Accounting Partners. “Finance should empower trustees and leadership teams to make confident decisions, manage risk, and deliver greater impact – not create confusion or stress. CAP was built to become the strategic finance partner charities have been missing.”

Rather than serving multiple industries, CAP works solely with charities and not-for-profit bodies throughout the UK. Its model combines sector knowledge with modern systems, structured staff development, and tools designed around charity governance, SORP compliance, and fund accounting.

The service brings together outsourced bookkeeping, financial oversight, and forward planning into a single partnership intended to strengthen resilience, support governance, and enable long-term sustainability.

Key features include:
• Exclusive focus on charities within UK regulatory and reporting requirements
• Specialist staff supported by formal training and development frameworks
• Use of modern platforms and in-house tools to improve financial visibility
• Advisory-led support that prioritises strategy and impact over compliance alone

With rising costs, tighter regulation, and uncertain funding, charity leaders are increasingly seeking finance partners who understand sector realities. CAP presents itself as an alternative model, combining large-firm technical standards with a collaborative and purpose-led approach.

By positioning finance as a strategic enabler rather than an administrative function, the firm intends to help charities build stronger, more sustainable organisations.

“Our goal is simple,” Wakeford added. “When finance works properly, charities thrive. And when charities thrive, society benefits.”
