Annual charity ball in Chester raises £20k

Two charities are set to receive a £20,000 fundraising boost following the ‘roaring success’ of a 1920’s-themed annual charity ball in Chester.

The long-awaited Fizz ‘n’ Flappers Charity Champagne Ball took place at the 5-star Chester Grosvenor and raised vital funds for Claire House Children’s Hospice and the Women v Cancer charity, which focuses on breast, ovarian and cervical cancer research.

More than 170 guests attended the ball, which was organised by prolific fundraiser Helen Watson, Partner and Head of Employment Law at Chester-based solicitors Aaron & Partners LLP.

The event was also supported by Judith Kenyon, Events Director at JayKay Events, and Abi Smith, Director at Eventure Ltd, and featured an auction and raffle prizes including a holiday to Marrakech, a Silverstone rally experience, a helicopter ride to and from Carden Park, Clogau Gold jewellery, Michael Bublé tickets, photography prizes and many more.

Helen Watson said: “I am delighted that after so much planning and hard work this event was such a huge success. The charities need our support now more than ever.

“As a previous Chair and long serving Ambassador of Claire House Children’s Hospice, I understand all about the incredible work they do and until the pandemic, with support from JayKay Events, I had organised annual black tie charity balls.

“All charities struggled during lockdown, so I’m delighted that our event was a sell-out with 175 tickets sold.”

Many guests dressed in authentic 1920’s style and danced the night away to jazz band The Sicariios after enjoying dinner accompanied by Taittinger champagne.
