Cheshire-Based Spartan Survival Celebrates A Year Of Helping To Change Lives For The Better

A CHESHIRE-based business which uses bushcraft and survival courses to bring families and co-workers closer together is celebrating its first anniversary.

Since setting up a year ago, Spartan Survival has helped equip hundreds of people with new skills which will last them a lifetime.

The business, based in Cholmondeley Woods, Malpas, has generated thousands of pounds for charity too by helping coordinate events to raise money for good-causes across the region.

Ian Huntington, the founder of Spartan Survival, believes the “back to basics” ethos behind his business will continue to drive its future success.

He said: “From the day we opened for business our goals have remained the same. That’s to provide families, schools, and businesses with bushcraft, survival, and wilderness skills to help them enjoy the great outdoors.

“As soon as people arrive on our courses we make clear they need to press pause on all of the stresses and strains of life and focus on just four things: shelter, fire, water and food. Many are a bit wary of handing in their mobile phones. And some look nervous as they head off to spend time on their own in the wilderness. By the end of the course they’ve gone through a total reset in their minds. It’s back to basics. And it’s a great way for parents to reconnect with their children, and have a lot of fun while they do it.”

Earlier this year, Spartan Survival helped NHS workers to raise more than £5,000 to support anti-knife crime and end of life care initiatives when they welcomed staff from Liverpool University Hospitals Foundation Trust.

The NHS heroes were sponsored to take part in activities, with the funds generated going towards providing lifeline support to thousands of people across the North West and beyond.

The cash raised is now being put into action by the Swan Model End of Life and Bereavement Service, and the Liverpool crime-fighting initiative KnifeSavers.

Since forming, Spartan Survival has been named as one of the 30 Most Exciting New Businesses in the North West by business guide The Insider.

They’ve appeared on national TV, featured in the Cheshire Life magazine and secured the support of mental health campaigner and boxing champion, Frank Brunp.

Ian added: “Right now everyone is worried about the cost of living crisis and making ends meet. But we like to show families how making small and simple changes in their lives and getting outside not only costs nothing, but it really improves their lives too. We are looking forward to welcoming lots more people on our courses in the weeks and months ahead.”

Courses are based at Cholmondeley, Cheshire and a secret remote island in Scotland. A variety of courses are available all year round. Individually tailored courses may also be possible. For more details visit spartansurvival.co.uk
