Local Specsavers puts staff development on the agenda

TWO LOCAL opticians are helping several members of their teams gain new skills, expand their knowledge, and attain further qualifications.

Nousheen Nousheen and Yasir Ali who both work at Specsavers in Middleton Shopping Centre are further developing their optics careers. Yasir begins his pre-registration qualifications this month after spending the past three years working weekends and holidays whilst studying optometry at the University of Manchester. Whilst Nousheen Nousheen, who has worked as a resident dispensing optician at the store for the past 12 months, is starting a contact lens optician course on a day release basis at Bradford College.

Contact lens optician, Zoe Hotchkiss, who has spent the last 15 years working between Specsavers Middleton and Specsavers Heaton Park, in Sainsbury’s on Heaton Park Road, has just began a course to further develop her career so that she can conduct minor eye condition clinics. As well as improving her own knowledge, Zoe is also helping others to expand their skillset.  In addition to Nousheen, she supervises Peter Cox, who is now in his second year of his dispensing optician course.

Lina Thompson, an optical assistant who has worked at the Middleton shop for four years, is starting her certificate four in Optical Dispensing and has already set her sights on a dispensing optician course, which she hopes to start next year.

Meanwhile, team members at the Heaton Park location are also focusing on personal growth. Amir Masood has spent the last four years working weekends and holidays whilst studying optometry at the University of Manchester and is now starting his pre-registration qualifications this month. His supervisor, Aquib Irfan, a resident optometrist who joined the business in the summer will also begin an independent prescribing course this month.

Together the team are working with Specsavers Middleton and Specsavers Heaton Park store directors, Kimberley Etchells and Krupal Sheth, to build a qualified, professional team who are well equipped to meet the needs and demands of communities closest to both stores.

Specsavers Middleton and Heaton Park store director, Kimberley Etchells says , ‘’We are committed to supporting the team progress professionally and gain new qualifications. These opportunities not only help colleagues on a personal level as they further their careers but also result in even better customer care for the community.’
