Liverpool: Klopp insists Salah spat is ‘completely resolved’

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says his spat with Mohamed Salah at West Ham last week is “completely resolved”.

Klopp and Salah were involved in a heated exchange prior to the Egypt international’s introduction from the substitutes’ bench at the London Stadium.

While Klopp was eager to play the incident down in the immediate aftermath, Salah told reporters “there’s gonna be a fire today if I speak” as he walked through the mixed zone.

Salah has been a key player in Liverpool’s success since moving to Anfield in 2017 and Klopp was adamant the strength of their relationship means there is no lingering issue as they prepare to face Tottenham on Sunday.

He said: “Completely resolved. It’s no problem. If we didn’t know each other for so long I’m not sure how we would deal with it but we know each other for that long and respect each other too much.

“It’s really no problem so we can deal with these kind of things completely independent of any expectations from the outside.

“We are absolutely fine with it but in general the best situation would be, everybody in the best possible place, we win the game, score lots of goals and yes the situation probably would not have been like that. It all depends on each other.”

Liverpool have had a rare midweek off due to their exit from the Europa League although Klopp continues to rail against the busy schedule.

He added: “The boys had a couple of days off which is super important and we could have proper training sessions again which we are pretty much not used to anymore. Usually we stumble from one into the next and then we play again.

“Training helps good coaches, good managers, good footballers massively, you can see that.

”It’s a general problem. Nothing to do with our schedule now, our schedule is right. We will see.

“They dare to give Thursday, Sunday, not to change because of Europe. [Then it’s] Thursday, Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday [at] 12:30. It’s a crime.

“I was actually waiting for Amnesty International to get to them.

“In the whole world we have the quickest turnaround between games. That is absolutely insane but they are still happy and [have] subscribers, you can take me off that list.”

The Premier League likes to claim it’s the best league in the world but unless Aston Villa can turn around a 4-2 first-leg deficit to Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League, England won’t have a representative in a European final this season, a point not lost on Klopp.

“In general I think it’s a really interesting subject,” he said. “I watch a lot of football. The Premier League is the best league in the world so it’s not overrated, the players are over-worked.”
