Tooltap Launches in Manchester to Bring Equipment Sharing to Local Communities

Manchester-based platform is making it easier for residents to rent tools and equipment, removing the need to buy items that are only used occasionally.

Tooltap Manchester, a locally founded venture, has introduced an online rental platform offering cleaning equipment including carpet cleaner hire and pressure washer hire in Manchester, with additional items expected to be added in coming months.

“Our research showed that the average power tool is used for less than 13 hours throughout its lifetime, while items like carpet cleaners are typically used just twice yearly,” explains a company representative. “This presented an opportunity to create a more efficient solution for Manchester residents.”

With household budgets stretched due to the rising cost of living, the platform gives residents a practical, affordable alternative to ownership by providing short-term access to high-quality gear.

Founded by Manchester-based entrepreneurs, Tooltap is modelled on the growing sharing economy trend but designed specifically with the Greater Manchester area in mind. The business aims to reflect and support the needs of local communities.

Tooltap simplifies the rental process with features like online ID verification in place of cash deposits, professional cleaning between hires, and both a Salford-based collection point and delivery options within Manchester. Users can also select flexible hire durations, whether for a one-day task or an extended project.

The platform also champions environmental sustainability, aiming to reduce overproduction and waste through shared use. > “Each tool shared means one less item manufactured and eventually discarded,” notes the company representative. “We’re building a more sustainable approach to accessing the equipment people need only when they need it.”

Tooltap plans to grow its inventory by responding to community feedback, potentially offering kitchen equipment, gardening tools, and DIY essentials. > “We’re taking a data-driven approach to scaling, focusing on categories where sharing makes the most economic and practical sense for Manchester residents,” the representative added.

The service is currently available to Greater Manchester residents through the company’s website.
