Planning consent granted in Congleton for McGoff Group

The McGoff Group has received planning permission for a new, multi-generational development on Morley Drive in Congleton.

The former John Morley site plans were given the unanimous decision at a recent planning committee meeting.

As a result of the joint planning application between the McGoff Group and McCarthy & Stone, the new development will comprise a 70 bed care home, 53 retirement apartments and 14 townhouses.

Having worked collaboratively with external stakeholders, including Cheshire East Council, Canals & Rivers Trust and Network Rail, the McGoff Group created a stunning development that aims to repurpose and transform the four acre brownfield site, as well as enhance the local community with a new, tree-lined cycle and pedestrian route which runs along the canal to Congleton train station.

The scheme, designed by C-Squared Architects, is sympathetic to the local conservation area with a mill-inspired exterior and it incorporates several renewable energies, including green roofs, a sustainable drainage scheme as well as PV Solar Panels.

Build on site will start later this year. The McGoff Group will instruct its sister company, McGoff Construction Services, to commence build imminently.

The McGoff Group will deliver the much needed three bedroom townhouses with dedicated car parking spaces, as well as the care facility, which will be operated by Group’s new luxury care home operating business, Dunham Care.

The facility in Congleton is the third care home to go to site for Dunham Care, with a further eight in the pipeline.

McCarthy & Stone will deliver the retirement complex, comprising 31 one bedroom apartments and 22 two bedroom apartments.

Chris McGoff, director at the McGoff Group, said: “We are thrilled this scheme was passed unanimously earlier this week. We have worked closely with the Council, Canals & Rivers Trust and Network Rail to ensure the proposed plans perfectly suit the site, which is close to both the railway line and Macclesfield Canal.

“More importantly, we will deliver much needed care beds and a retirement setting, with a shortfall of both recently identified in Congleton, as well as high quality, new build homes.  Jobs in the locality will also be created, with the care home alone providing circa 100 jobs.”

It is anticipated that build will start towards the end of summer.

Driven by second generation family values, innovation, excellence and operational expertise, the McGoff Group has a seamless ability to acquire, design, build, operate and maintain making it a popular choice for clients, funders, joint venture partners and supply chain partners alike.
