Police close down anti-social behaviour house in Congleton

A property in Congleton that had become a source of distress for the local community has been shut down by police.

Officers received multiple reports of anti-social behaviour, including suspected drug activity and frequent disturbances, with people coming and going from the Fern Crescent address at all hours.

Following an investigation and in collaboration with Regenda Homes, the Congleton Beat Team presented their case at Warrington Magistrates’ Court yesterday. The court granted a three-month closure order for the property.

The residents have been ordered to vacate and seek alternative housing.

The property has since been secured, with all windows and doors boarded up. It will remain sealed for three months, and anyone who enters during this period will be committing a criminal offence and may face arrest.

PC Helen Weeks said: “We are determined to make the community a safe environment for everyone, and closure orders allow us to do this.

“The occupants were given ample opportunity to seek assistance from external agencies however these offers of support were not taken up. Our next step was to obtain a closure order from the courts.

“The behaviour around the Fern Crescent property is totally unacceptable and I know that residents will be greatly relieved to hear the news today.

“I hope our ongoing work to tackle these issues in our neighbourhoods will provide some reassurance to the communities we serve that we will use every power available to us to restore some normality to the area.

“As always, we can’t do this without the support of the communities we serve, and I would urge anyone who has concerns about anti-social behaviour related issues to please report it to us and we will do the rest.”

Anyone with concerns about ASB in their area is asked to report it to Cheshire Police via the website or call 101. Congleton residents are asked to complete a Residents’ Voice survey about issues in their community, you can do so by visiting here.
