CHARITY GOLF DAY IN AID OF THE JOSHUA TREE CHARITY RAISES £4,500

A charity golf day attended by almost 100 players has raised £4,500 for Northwich children’s charity The Joshua Tree.

The Persimmon Homes Golf Day was held at Wychwood Park Golf Club in Crewe.

Karl Wiseman, Managing Director of Persimmon Homes North West, said: “We were delighted to raise such a significant sum for The Joshua Tree, which continues to do such outstanding work supporting families affected by childhood cancers.”

The Joshua Tree charity was established in 2006 by Lynda and David Hill who, as parents of a child with Leukaemia, fully appreciate the benefits of additional family support away from hospital. It works to support and improve the emotional well-being and mental health of all family members affected by childhood cancer.

In May this year, after 14 years of fundraising, The Joshua Tree opened its fantastic purpose-built Support Centre, featuring a multi-functional activity room, counselling suites, soft play and sensory equipment, a games room, office facilities, an outdoor play area and landscaped gardens.

Fundraising is ongoing, helping to pay for the wide range of services available at the centre, including family and 1:1 counselling, therapy and support sessions.

The Persimmon Golf Day saw 24 fourballs tee off with teams made up of staff members, sub-contractors, supply chain colleagues and guests. Prizes were given out to the top 3 placed golfers, as well as for the longest drive, nearest the pin and beat the pro.

The golf event was followed by an evening dinner with charity auction, where the guest speaker was former Everton striker Duncan McKenzie.

Karl added: “It was a hugely successful day and my thanks go to everyone who attended and helped us raise so much money for such an amazing cause.”

Pippa Watson-Peck, Fundraising Manager at The Joshua Tree, said: “We cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for yet again choosing to support us.

“Every donation we receive makes a real difference to the work we are able to do. For instance: £250 delivers a ‘family Saturday’ support session, £45 pays for a 1:1 counselling session, and £25 provides a child or sibling with a craft bag. Thank you again to Persimmon Homes and the golfers who supported us.”
