Accounts & Legal, a consultancy specialising in tax, accounting and legal services for small and medium businesses across the UK has opened a new office in Liverpool.
The office will expand the firm’s reach in the North West following the opening of its Manchester accounting office in 2020, further helping support the growing number of SMEs in the region.
Connected services
Accounts & Legal, as the name suggests, brings together accountancy, tax, corporate finance and legal services under one roof, making it easier for ambitious businesses to get comprehensive advice and a streamlined service from a single source.
The firm’s founder, Neil Nichols, explained, “As an entrepreneur and business owner myself, I found it extremely complicated to deal with accountants and solicitors separately. So, in 2015, I set up Accounts & Legal to offer an integrated service.”
“I believe that clients can benefit from a partner who can look at business problems and opportunities from both a legal and financial perspective. As some business challenges can be tricky to handle without receiving formal legal advice, we make it easy for small businesses to receive the necessary advice and documentation needed to successfully run their company.”
Neil Nichols added that feedback from small businesses also indicated that many are reluctant to hire a High Street solicitor that is unlikely to understand their business, even though they really need good legal advice.
“We think ‘connected services’ are the future for professions like accounting and legal services,” he explained. “Clients are demanding more innovative services to solve their business problems and that requires a firm that can offer multi-disciplinary expertise.”
“Clients want a provider that can identify and manage problems before they impact their business, and they want accounting and legal services that add value – not costs – to all parts of their business.”
Focus on growth
The firm’s approach has clearly worked because Accounts & Legal has continued to grow, attracting more clients and opening offices around the country. From its original office in London, new premises opened in Brighton, Manchester and now Liverpool, with plans to open more offices in the future.
“The dream team keeps growing which is very exciting to see!” said Stuart Hurst, Director at Accounts and Legal.
“I think our own growth shows that we practice what we preach. There are a lot of busines ‘gurus’ out there making bold claims so its easy for people to be skeptical. But we’ve grown rapidly ourselves and also helped countless other businesses get where they want to be, which hopefully gives our clients a lot of confidence in us”.
Stuart Hurst believes the key to helping businesses is a more hands-on approach from accountants. Through regular contact and the use of technology to automate labour-heavy tasks and give full insight of the numbers; business owners can feel in control of their businesses and more importantly, their lives.
“Growing up I saw my Dad really struggle with the stress of running his own business, and the whole time, no one ever helped him with his numbers. It got to the point where we had to sell our house when the business failed, which is something that stays with you as a child. If he’d just had someone to explain the numbers and help get his business under control it would’ve saved our family a lot of heartache and stress. It’s why we’re so passionate about supporting business owners, because it genuinely does change people’s lives for the better.”
Accounts & Legal has already seen strong demand for its services through the Manchester office where the team has grown from the original three to ten to meet the needs of more than 140 clients.
Now, the firm is ready to hit the ground running in the new office as Max Whiteley, Head of the Liverpool office explained, “It’s a great time to be in Liverpool, and the reception we’ve had from local businesses up to now has been overwhelmingly positive. The city really is continuing to flourish, so it’s a privilege to be a part of that.”
He added, “Of course, we wouldn’t have been able to do it without our amazing team and that team is continuing to grow. So, we’re always on the lookout for fresh talent so we can continue to offer our local clients the best possible service.”
