Formula 1: Ferrari name Serra as new chassis technical director

Ferrari have named Frenchman Loic Serra as the technical director of their chassis team in Formula 1.

The 52-year-old was previously the performance director at Mercedes and will now replace Enrico Cardile, who left for Aston Marin.

Serra will start his new role on 1 October.

His promotion comes after a reassessment of the team’s technical structure by team principal Frederic Vasseur.

The switch to Ferrari will link Serra back up with Lewis Hamilton in 2025, who he worked with at Mercedes.

The team had explored signing Adrian Newey, but talks broke down with the 65-year-old looking likely to head to Aston Martin.

A statement from the team said: “Scuderia Ferrari HP announces that it has entrusted the role of Technical Director Chassis to Loic Serra.

“As previously announced, the French engineer, born in 1972, will join the team on 1 October. Loic in this new role will report directly to the Team Principal, Fred Vasseur.

“Serra will therefore be responsible for the following departments: Chassis Project Engineering, headed up by Fabio Montecchi; Vehicle Performance, headed up by Marco Adurno; Aerodynamics, headed up by Diego Tondi; Track Engineering, headed up by Matteo Togninalli and Chassis Operations, headed up by Diego Ioverno, who also continues in the role of Sporting Director.

“The role of Technical Director Power Unit continues to be assigned to Enrico Gualtieri reporting directly to Fred Vasseur.”
