Formula 1: Norris earns commanding Singapore Grand Prix win

Lando Norris put on a masterclass at the Singapore Grand Prix, securing a dominant win and reducing Max Verstappen’s championship lead to 52 points.

Daniel Ricciardo managed to swipe the fastest lap, denying Norris an additional point in what is a very tight chase.

McLaren’s Oscar Piastri also shone, claiming third place after passing both Mercedes drivers for the final podium spot.

Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc fought his way from ninth but could only manage fifth behind George Russell, who fended him off in the closing laps.

Meanwhile, Fernando Alonso bested Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez, securing seventh for Aston Martin.

Although Verstappen finished second, he acknowledged Red Bull’s struggles, noting that improvements are needed to challenge McLaren’s pace.

Norris, despite a couple of close brushes with the barriers, maintained total control throughout the race, marking his third career victory.

Speaking after the race, the winner said: “It was an amazing race. A few too many close calls. I had a couple of moments in the middle but I was well in control otherwise.

“The car was mega so I could push and we were flying the whole race. At the end I could just chill. It was still a tough race. I’m still out of breath but a very fun one.

“I didn’t want to have a one-second lead, I wanted to have the biggest lead possible. It was fun – maximum points and nice to have Oscar on the podium. He drove well so a good day for the team.”

Piastri’s podium boosted McLaren’s lead over Red Bull in the constructors’ standings.

However, rumours swirl around Ricciardo’s future, with suggestions that Red Bull reserve driver Liam Lawson could take his seat ahead of the US Grand Prix in Austin.

Overall, Norris’ performance has intensified the championship race, but Verstappen still holds a manageable lead with six races remaining.
