438 Marketing celebrates 20th year with revenue jump and client wins

Independent brand communications agency 438 Marketing is celebrating 20 years of creativity, growth and brilliant relationships.

As the agency enters its third decade, it has reported a 24% YOY revenue increase, new clients and expansion of its in-house capabilities to support ongoing success.

Founded in 2005, 438 Marketing has built a reputation for delivering impactful brand experiences, employee engagement solutions and strategic marketing programmes for some of the world’s most recognised companies.

Its current client roster includes PepsiCo, Isuzu UK, Subaru and Element Materials Technology, as well as several regional charities and B2B organisations. Recently joining 438’s line up, following competitive pitches, are a leading manufacturer of construction and agricultural equipment, PDG Aviation Services, International software systems integrator ITI; Charitable Foundation Kenora and The Joshua Tree charity.

Operating with a dynamic team of around 30 professionals, including a dedicated London-based digital team, the agency also has recently expanded its film, strategy and creative departments to support the adapting needs of its clients.

This investment has also reinforced its ongoing specialism in curating impactful sponsorship partnerships, with the likes of Manchester United x Ecolab, Paramount Pictures x Isuzu UK and the Football Association.

20 years of making change matter

As the business marks its 20th year, 438 continues to thrive under the leadership of long-standing board members and co-founders Andy Whitmore and Paul Keen, who have fostered a culture of expertise and trust; managing director Helenka Hodnett, who has been with the agency for 18 years, drives strategic growth alongside a committed leadership team, while creative director Damian Rawcliffe spearheads its creative offering alongside head of creative Andy Fryer.

From its early above-the-line campaigns, including launching a new UniBond No More Nails formula to its latest wellbeing-focused work for Isuzu UK, 438 Marketing has consistently demonstrated a commitment to transforming brands, both big and small.

Reflecting on 438’s journey, co-founder Paul Keen said: “So, in what feels like the blink of an eye, 438 now has 20 years on the clock. From the original team of four, the agency has organically grown to over 30 professionals. We continue to work out of our head office in Knutsford, Cheshire, providing in-house integrated marketing and advertising services, including strategy, planning, client service, creative, design and film production, for an enviable list of clients.

“From a simple business idea to a thriving agency, 438 has built something remarkable—and the journey isn’t over yet.

“With 40% of the team having been with the agency for over five years, retaining top talent is one of 438’s proudest achievements. Together, we’ve built a relaxed, inclusive culture of togetherness and camaraderie. Testament to this is that the agency’s first recruit, Sophie – who joined as an account executive in 2005 – is now a highly skilled account director with the agency.

Long-term client relationships are another hallmark of 438’s success. Keen adds: Over the years, 438 has maintained long-standing relationships with clients like Element Materials Technology; International Motors Ltd (12+ years) and PepsiCo (6+ years). These partnerships have produced some of the most effective, creative marketing campaigns to further strengthen our role as a core part of their teams. The tenure of these relationships verifies the exceptional service and creative solutions provided by the whole team. Further validation comes from the fact that at least 80% of our new business is secured through referrals and recommendations.”

Managing director, Helenka Hodnett adds: “The original concept behind 438 was to provide strategic and creative services of the kind typically supplied by bigger agencies but delivered as an independent small business with outstanding client service.  We’ve certainly – and consistently – delivered on that.

And with a vision for continued success, the agency’s 20th year is not just a moment for reflection – it’s a launchpad for even greater achievements.

We’re immensely proud to be celebrating 20 years in business, a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the talent and commitment of our team. With the recent client wins, continued growth from our existing clients, and the expansion of our in-house capabilities, 2025 is shaping up to be another landmark year.”
