A magical night out at Land of Lights, Warrington

From the moment we arrived at Land of Lights in Warrington, it felt like we were stepping into a glowing storybook.

The trail (based at Gulliver’s World) stretches for what seems like miles, drawing families through an ever-changing route of glowing wonders.

It begins with familiar fairy stories such as Alice in Wonderland, The Little Mermaid, The Lion King and The Princess and the Frog – set in vivid light installations that look fab against the night sky.

It then metamorphoses from a Halloween-themed zone, complete with giant spider-webs, pumpkins, a cackling witch and tarantula – into a wintery wonderland carrying visitors across seasonal moods seamlessly.

What sets the trail apart is its variety. Giant animals (from giraffes to lions), a chameleon, rabbits, and even a dedicated dinosaur zone populate the route. A giant head sculpture looms dramatically, while totem poles and other artistic sculptures add unexpected flair.

The atmosphere is upbeat, thanks to music playing along the trail and the opportunity to toast marshmallows as you walk – simple touches that elevated the experience.

Families will appreciate the practicalities too. The park remains open for rides, including a ghost train, teacup ride and a thrilling swing – although these cost an extra £2 per person.

Food and drink options are plentiful: hot drinks, waffles, fruit crumbles, coffees line the way. However, if you have dietary needs you may want to plan ahead, as free-from options weren’t apparent.

Parking was free and the trail was accessible: clean, well-maintained toilets, smooth paths for wheelchairs and pushchairs, and a route suitable for all ages.

Land of Lights delivers a rich, immersive evening out… artistic, accessible and family-friendly.

Whether you’re drawn by the story-inspired lanterns, the seasonal transitions or simply the shared joy of walking through light in good company, this trail offers plenty of reasons to wrap up warm and go. If you’re looking for a memorable family outing this season, this is one that genuinely shines.
