‘New Horizons Book 2′ Takes Readers Back Into Michael Mathers’ Acclaimed Adventure Series

Celebrated countryside-inspired novels continue with a compelling blend of suspense, wildlife and survival

MILTON KEYNES, UK. July 2, 2026 – Author Michael Mathers has expanded his popular New Horizons series with the arrival of New Horizons Book 2. The new novel builds on the success of the earlier instalment, delivering another engaging story that combines thrilling adventure, memorable personalities and a deep appreciation for the natural environment.

Michael’s journey as a novelist began with encouragement from longtime friend John Hursey, a respected writer and accomplished classical pianist. Their original intention was to co-author a book together. After writing the opening pages, Hursey encouraged Michael to continue independently. Michael now believes that simple act of encouragement helped launch a writing career that has become one of his greatest achievements.

Years spent working in forestry have shaped Michael’s storytelling. His firsthand understanding of wildlife and the countryside allows him to create authentic locations and believable animal characters that add realism and warmth throughout the series.

The first two books are set on an isolated island off Scotland’s west coast, where dramatic scenery and the surrounding wilderness influence every stage of the adventure. Those distinctive landscapes remain an important feature in New Horizons Book 2.

As the story continues, the scope widens beyond the island. Book Three moves entirely onto Scotland’s west coast mainland, providing a larger setting that supports even more dramatic events while remaining closely connected to nature.

Among the many creatures introduced throughout the books, Calvin the pig has earned a special place in Michael’s heart. Although Calvin is the author’s favourite character, he humorously admits that pigs are the only animals featured in the series that he has never personally worked with.

The books offer more than action alone. A carefully hidden theme flows beneath the surface of every interaction and event. Rather than spelling it out, Michael leaves readers to identify its meaning through their own interpretation.

Mystery also plays an important role alongside the realistic challenges faced by the characters. Elements of the unexplained are woven into the story, allowing readers to decide for themselves how those moments should be understood.

Book Three delivers the series’ most intense conflict as its three main characters confront life-threatening dangers that test their courage and perseverance. Their struggle for survival creates some of the most dramatic moments in the series.

New Horizons Book 2 is available through Maple Publishers, a UK publisher recognised for championing engaging fiction and providing professional publishing services, including cover design and interior book layout.
