The Return of Chester’s Carols in the Courtyard raises cash plus 272kg of food donations

There was hog roast, singing and hundreds of pounds raised for good causes as Chester’s Carols in the Courtyard event returned.

The storm that had battered the North West for much of the day subsided to allow for Aaron & Partners, bennettbrooks and Savills to host their annual event to celebrate the festive season.

Taking place at Grosvenor Court, guests tucked into hog roast and mince pies to the sounds of The City of Chester Brass Band before a welcome from Sheriff of Chester Cllr Jill Houlbrook and carols with Chester Rock Choir.

The well-attended event saw a lot of money raised for local causes – West Cheshire Food Bank received £260 in cash on the night, plus 272kg in food donations, while Grosvenor Rowing Club served drinks and collected almost £300.

Taking place on December 8, those in attendance also enjoyed a hog roast served by Cheeky Swine Hog Roast.

Jan Chillery from Legal 500-listed Aaron & Partners said: “It was marvellous to see so many people turn out for our annual Carols in the Courtyard event – braving the storm and the cold to wave in the festive season in style.

“There was goodwill in abundance as the local community generously donated hundreds of pounds to these two very worthy causes. Thank you to all who turned out – and also to our merry musical cabaret.”

It was the second Carols in the Courtyard event to be held at the firm’s Chester base. Launched in 2019, it was cancelled last year due to the pandemic.

Claire Hills from chartered accountants bennettbrooks said: “Since putting on this event at the fantastic courtyard at our Chester office, we continue to be blown away by the generosity of those who turn out.

“Our thanks this year also go to Storm Barra – which held off for two hours or so to give us a clear evening.”

Philippa Davey, senior planner at real estate services provider Savills added: “It was a pleasure to help host this wonderful event again this year – and to see it return after a year off due to the pandemic.

“It’s undoubtedly the best way to launch the festive season – and we are simply delighted at how much was raised.”
