LOCAL BUSINESSES COME TOGETHER FOR BETTER BUSINESS FESTIVAL

Local business leaders came together last week to attend Cheshire’s first ever Better Business Festival.

Hosted by local business community Cheshire for Good and Chester-based holiday rental agency Sykes Holiday Cottages, the event saw expert speakers share their knowledge and kick-start an important discussion on sustainable business practices.

Speakers included Sykes’ CEO Graham Donoghue, alongside Cheshire for Good founder Donna Okell and campaign manager of The Better Business Act, Mhairi Littlewood.

Conversations covered everything from how businesses can step up to do their bit to help the planet, to the journey to achieving ‘B Corp’ certification, the highest verified standard of social and environmental impact a business can have.

Founded in 2021 and inspired by the growth of the responsible business movement, Cheshire for Good aims to put Cheshire on the map as the Better Business capital of the UK.

Donna Okell, founder of Cheshire for Good, said: “This event was a great opportunity to listen to so many inspiring and forward-thinking business leaders discuss different elements of sustainability. Whilst some of the issues discussed around climate change and the state of our planet were incredibly alarming, we all left feeling hopeful about the future and determined to make a difference.”

Graham Donoghue, CEO of Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “We feel very fortunate to have helped host Cheshire’s first ever Better Business Festival and hope to make this an annual event for local businesses to come together. As a founding member of Cheshire for Good, we’re committed to doing whatever it takes to be better as a business and protect our planet.”

Cheshire for Good was launched by Donna Okell in 2021 with the aims of making Cheshire the most responsible business county in the UK by educating business leaders on people, planet and profit.
