Popular Holmes Chapel Nursery Celebrates 30th Birthday

Happy Days held two parties to mark the milestone.

Happy Days Club & Nursery School, based in Holmes Chapel, is celebrating a huge milestone; being in operation for three decades. The popular nursery, wraparound care, and holiday club held 30th birthday parties at both of its sites in the village (Hermitage and Jubilee Walk), inviting all children to come along for games and cake.

Happy Days was founded in 1992 by local lady Dorothy Davidson and opened its doors with just five children on the register! Today, the nursery is owned by Helen Hall who became Dorothy’s business partner in 2006, then Sole Owner in 2010, when Dorothy retired. Happy Days now has more than 300 children on the books.

“It’s been lovely hearing so many messages of congratulations and well-wishes from people around Holmes Chapel” says Helen. “Happy Days is clearly a well-loved institution in the village, and it’s reassuring and humbling to hear how many lives we’ve touched. Both myself and Dorothy, as well as all of our staff, have worked hard to create an inclusive and nurturing environment for children, and we hope it continues for the next 30 years!”

Holmes Chapel resident Poppy Grundy, who attended Happy Days in the 90s when it was based at the Comprehensive School, has fond memories, “We had such a good time [at Happy Days] that usually my mum would come to collect us and we’d send her home again! It’s my own happy memories of HD that made me so keen to send my own children there.”

The two parties were held in October and were attended by most of the current children, as well as all staff, and some faces from the past, including Dorothy herself!
