Which UK city downloads most Christmas music?

A new study has revealed the UK cities that love Christmas music most, with Chester ranking sixth in England and eighth nationally.

The research conducted by digital headphones magazine Headphonesty analysed Google Search data to determine which UK cities love festive jingles most based on the highest number of monthly searches per 100,000 residents for the top 100 Christmas songs on Spotify.

Chester’s top three songs are All I Want For Christmas Is You, Somewhere Only We Know, and Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree.

Wrexham has the highest concentration of Christmas music lovers, with 1,579 searches per 100,000 people, making it the most festive place in the UK and Wales.

Wrexham’s search volume is four times the national average of 395. Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You is the top search. Wrexham residents Google Mariah Carey’s smash hit more than any other UK city, at 161 monthly searches per 100,000, over double the national average of 60. Keane’s Somewhere Only We Know and Brenda Lee’s Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree are the second and third local favorites. 

Inverness is Scotland’s festive music capital, with the second-highest search volume in the UK at 1,048 per 100,000 people. Mariah Carey’s hit takes the top spot, with Jingle Bells and Silent Night ranking second and third.

Bath googles festive music more than any other city in England, with 1,037 searches per 100,000 residents. All I Want For Christmas Is You, Somewhere Only We Know, and Silent Night make up its top three tunes.

The fourth-to-ninth most festive cities are all located in England. All I Want For Christmas Is You was the top search for each, and Somewhere Only We Know made the top three. Cambridge’s top three did not include Keane’s hit. Instead, Silent Night and Jingle Bells were its second and third most-Googled tunes
