Stafford housebuilder raises £5,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society

Employees from housebuilder Vistry Group have raised £5,000 for the company’s charity of the year, the Alzheimer’s Society.

Staff working at the regional head office in Dunston, near Stafford, took part in a series of fundraising activities throughout 2023, including a golf day, memory challenge and Christmas jumper day.

A challenge to collectively climb the height of the world’s highest peak Mount Everest (29,029ft) during the month of September was also completed.

Five employees hiked to the top of Mount Snowdon in Wales, contributing a combined 17,800ft to the overall total by reaching the mountain’s 3,560ft-high summit, as well as raising £730 in sponsorship.

And staff contributed a further 44,672ft by running up the stairs at Vistry Mercia’s head office, boosting the overall total to 62,472ft – more than double the original target.

Freya Halsall, marketing manager for Vistry Mercia, one of the five employees to climb Mount Snowdon in September, said: “The Alzheimer’s Society is such an important charity as dementia is something which affects so many families. It was great to see colleagues joining in with the fundraising activities that we organised over the course of the year, and it was thanks to everyone’s combined efforts that we managed to achieve such a good total.

“Conquering Mount Snowdon was a great thrill for me and for my four colleagues who took part in the climb. Despite the tough weather conditions it was a fantastic experience and one that was made even more special by the knowledge that we were doing it for such a worthy cause.”

The Alzheimer’s Society supports those who are struggling with dementia as well as funding research into diagnosis, care and targeted treatments. The charity is made up of people with dementia, campaigners, carers, experts, researchers, and clinicians.
