Cheshire Football Association and sensory loss charity to host deaf awareness workshop

Cheshire Football Association (CFA) is thrilled to announce an exciting collaboration with DSN (Deafness Support Network) to present a unique opportunity for club officials and team managers.

The first free Deaf Awareness Training Workshop, hosted in partnership with Incus Training, promises to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of deafness-related terms and effective communication strategies.

It takes place at the Cheshire FA Headquarters in Northwich, from 6pm-8.30pm on January 18, and aims to enhance the knowledge of football communities on how to identify and communicate with individuals who are deaf.

The event is open to all CFA club officials and team managers.

The workshop will be led by Brian Cadwallader, the lead trainer at Incus Training, the training arm of DSN which has offices in Northwich, Macclesfield and Chester.

Each participant will receive a certificate of attendance, recognising their commitment to advancing their understanding of deafness and promoting inclusivity within the football community.

Steve Smithies, CEO of Cheshire FA, expressed his enthusiasm about this collaboration. He said: “We are excited to present this fantastic opportunity for our staff and club officials to join us at CFA for a Deaf Awareness Training workshop with DSN. The importance of this training to our staff and the wider football communities will provide additional knowledge on how to identify and communicate with those with a hearing impairment.”

Brian Cadwallader, lead for Incus Training, shared his perspective on the significance of the workshop. He said: “We are delighted to collaborate with Cheshire FA in delivering this crucial Deaf Awareness Training. By fostering understanding and effective communication, we aim to create a more inclusive football environment. Together with Cheshire FA, we are taking a step towards making football accessible to everyone, regardless of their hearing.”
