Liverpool target Ruben Amorim linked with West Ham job

Sporting CP coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly held talks with West Ham about replacing David Moyes this summer, casting doubt upon his chances of succeeding Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Amorim has been touted as a target for Liverpool since Xabi Alonso announced he would reject interest from the Reds – and Bayern Munich – to stay with Bayer Leverkusen.

Brighton and Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi has also been suggested as a candidate to replace Klopp at Anfield.

Widespread reports on Monday suggested Amorim is not Liverpool’s top target, but he could still be managing in the Premier League next season.

According to The Athletic, the 39-year-old has travelled to London for talks with the West Ham hierarchy as they sound out potential replacements for Moyes.

Moyes’ contract is due to expire at the end of the season, and though the Scot has led the Irons into contention for European qualification again this term, he is thought likely to depart amid fan dissatisfaction.

Amorim guided Sporting to their first Primeira Liga title since 2002 in his first full campaign at the helm in 2020-21, and they look likely to reclaim the crown this season, sitting seven points clear of second-placed Benfica.

Julen Lopetegui has also been linked with West Ham, with the Spaniard repeatedly outlining his intention to wait for another Premier League job since he left Wolves last August.
