Empowering Sales Teams Could Help Strengthen the UK Economy, Expert Suggests

With the UK experiencing ongoing economic pressures, one experienced sales professional believes that boosting confidence and skills among salespeople could make a meaningful difference to growth and business stability.

Kenan Mumcu, who has spent 35 years working in sales leadership, training and international trade, argues that effective sales development is not just good for individual companies, but beneficial to the wider economy.

“People are often frightened to sell, but confidence and the right mindset can transform not only individual performance but also the broader business landscape,” said Mumcu. “In challenging economic times, a winning sales mindset can help companies maintain revenue, protect jobs, and drive innovation.”

Evidence supports this outlook. Studies show that investment in sales training can yield returns of £4–£6 per £1 spent. Export activity is also a major factor in economic growth. According to the British Chambers of Commerce, a small 2% increase in UK exports could boost national GDP by 0.6%. Skilled salespeople play a key role in identifying international demand and building relationships across borders.

Kenan has seen these principles in action throughout his own career. He has worked in senior sales roles at Harvey Nichols and driven high performance for brands such as Dolphin Bathrooms and Sharps Kitchens. With £16 million in total career sales and international recognition for his results, he has consistently ranked among the highest performers in his field.

Today, Kenan provides guidance to UK teams seeking to improve confidence, communication and commercial effectiveness. His coaching demonstrates how empowering sales professionals through structured development can help businesses stay competitive and resilient despite economic challenges.
