Van Dijk eager to be part of post-Klopp era at Liverpool

Virgil van Dijk is keen to play a major role in Liverpool’s transition away from Jurgen Klopp, though the Reds captain is yet to see any movement regarding a new contract at Anfield.

With Klopp calling time on his glittering nine-year reign on Merseyside, the futures of some of his Liverpool stalwarts have been called into question.

Mohamed Salah is entering the final 12 months of his contact at Anfield and has been linked with Saudi Pro League clubs after becoming embroiled in a public spat with Klopp during a recent 2-2 draw with West Ham.

Van Dijk will also be out of contract in 2025, and Bayern Munich have been credited with an interest in the defender in recent days.

While Van Dijk is yet to agree terms to extend his stay, he remains content at the club and is looking forward to playing a key role as they enter a new era.

“I think there is nothing for me to discuss because there is no news,” he told reporters.

“I think the club is very much busy with who is going to be the new manager and that is the main focus.

“Like I said, I am very happy here, I love the club and you can see that as well. It’s a big part of my life already, and that is all I can say.

“The focus is now on the last two games and then the club will focus on who the new manager is and there will be a big transition and I am part of that.”

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is expected to be announced as Klopp’s successor at the end of the season, with Van Dijk’s compatriot having confirmed his interest in the role last month.
