“Start Now, Finish Strong!” – Injury Prevention Program Launched by Brighton Triathlete for Runners Over 40

PhysioFit Physio and Pilates Studio proudly announces the launch of “Start Now, Finish Strong!”, a bespoke rehabilitation program for runners over 40 suffering from injuries. This program is designed to help them surpass recurring running injuries and enjoy pain-free running.

The program is the brainchild of Alexandra Johnson, who combines over 15 years of physiotherapy expertise with her extensive experience as a competitive triathlete. Johnson graduated with a 2:1 BSc in Physiotherapy from St George’s Medical University and has an impressive career, including over a decade in the NHS and six years in private practice, focusing on sports-related musculoskeletal injuries.

Johnson herself battles Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome, a rare vascular condition in her leg, which limits her walking ability without a special compression stocking. Despite intense pain, blood clots, muscle weakness, and balance issues, she has accomplished feats like the Marathon des Sables, 2x 70.3 Ironman World Championships, and marathons in New York and London.

In January 2017, a cycling accident resulting in multiple fractures led Johnson to seek innovative solutions for pain-free running, beyond traditional physiotherapy methods.

With “Start Now, Finish Strong!”, Johnson departs from standard approaches, focusing on tailored solutions for those aged over 40. The program, an eight-week online course, covers aspects like mental and physical fitness, rehabilitation, joint mobility and strength, sleep, nutrition, and exercises to prevent common running injuries. The success of the program is exemplified by Stephen Taylor, who overcame a persistent Achilles injury and returned to pain-free running in eight weeks.

Johnson’s investment of over £10,000 in business mentors and coaching reflects her dedication to sharing her expertise with a broader audience, helping runners over 40 face their unique challenges.

As Alexandra Johnson puts it: “I passionately believe that being over 40 does not equate to giving up on running or enduring pain. With the right approach, understanding, and techniques, individuals can not only resume running but do so better and stronger, embracing a new lease on life.”
