Everton: Dyche demands goals from whole squad

Everton boss Sean Dyche says it’s the responsibility of the whole team to increase their number of goals – not just the strikers.

England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin has gone 21 games without getting on the scoresheet and was dropped for Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to West Ham at Goodison Park.

His replacement Beto did score against the Hammers but also missed a penalty as Everton missed the chance to pull away from the relegation zone.

Dyche accepts it’s a major issue for his side but called on everyone to contribute.

“We’re showing the right signs, everyone knows that but I spoke last week about the frustration you take in the moment because we get in some key areas and key moments and a story of the season so far really of, not taking chances,” he said ahead of the trip to Manchester United on Saturday.

“But as I always reference it’s a team responsibility, mine, the staff and the team. It’s not about one player.

“That is another challenge because it’s not easy to create a lot of good chances in football but we are doing that. We’ve got to at least maintain that and add detail.”

Manchester United have lost two of their last three games but Dyche remains wary of the threat posed by Erik ten Hag’s inconsistent side.

“They’re still a good outfit, they’ve still got strong players, we know that. So there’s certainly no gimmes at Old Trafford and certainly in football,” added Dyche, whose side have won just one of their last 14 in all competitions.

“I think the level of performance, overall, has been pretty decent,” said the former Burnley boss.

“Finding the moments that make the decent performances into wins, that’s the trickiest part. That’s the most important part and I’m absolutely aware of that.

“The perception of playing and form is a completely different thing for most people’s views. If you’re winning all the time, trust me it can mask a lot of things that are not right with the performance.”
