Swansway Motor Group to represent BYD in Cheshire

Swansway Motor Group is extending its franchise network to include BYD.

The family-owned and run motor group has agreed on a franchise partnership with the Chinese electric car manufacturer.

Representing the brand in two locations in Cheshire, Swansway Motor Group will be opening BYD sites in Crewe, where their head office functions are based, and Chester where the business also has a substantial presence with their Swansway Chester Peugeot retailer and used car supermarket Motor Match.

Opening on May 1, 2024, the BYD Crewe retailer will be located on Beswick Drive, Crewe, CW1 5NP, meanwhile, the BYD Chester retailer will be located on Bumpers Lane, Chester, CH1 4LT.

Both dealerships will be located alongside Swansway Motor Group’s used car supermarket Motor Match.

Swansway Motor Group director John Smyth said: “We’re eager to see what this partnership will bring for the Swansway Motor Group name but also our retail and fleet customers.

“Their focus on electric vehicles reflects the changes in the market and as a brand, BYD is making its mark in the UK and we are looking forward to being a part of that expansion.”

The popularity of electric vehicles is continually rising and BYD’s entrance into the UK market has not gone unmissed, entering the marketing in early 2023 with the Atto 3, a family SUV, and since then have expanded to include two more models, the Dolphin and the Seal.

All BYD vehicles will be built on the company’s new e-Platform 3.0 chassis, a modular electric platform that allows for front, rear, and four-wheel drive configurations.

Originating as a battery manufacturer in 1995, the company is now using its expertise to develop clever technology. The brand’s innovative cobalt-free Blade Battery pack has been designed to prioritise safety, durability, and efficiency.

Swansway Motor Group operates dealerships across the Midlands, North West, and North Wales, with 21 retailers representing eight brands and five Motor Match dealerships, alongside their Crewe-based Accident Repair Centre and Fleet Division.

BYD cars UK has plans to establish a UK retail network of 100 dealerships by the end of 2025.
