UFC: Conor McGregor comeback fight cancelled

Conor McGregor’s comeback fight in the UFC against Michael Chandler at the end of June has been cancelled.

The Irishman was set to step into the ring for the first time since breaking his leg three years ago in an eventual defeat by Dustin Poirier.

McGregor has suffered a late injury, according to president Dana White and the other co-main event in Las Vegas between Jamahal Hill and Carlos Ulberg has also been cancelled.

It is the first time McGregor has had to withdraw from a fight because of an injury and it explains why the UFC postponed a news conference in Dublin earlier in June.

White’s announced on X that two new fights would take place, with light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira defending his title against Jiri Prochazka and Brian Ortega taking on Diego Lopes in a featherweight matchup.

UFC events in Las Vegas draw in huge crowds and there is naturally a big disappointment that McGregor would be unable to compete.

Tickets for his match against Chandler sold out in less than 10 minutes but now fans will have to turn their attentions to the other highly anticipated fight between Ian Garry and Michael Page.
