EA Technology slashes carbon emissions and saves thousands at Chester HQ

POWER ENGINEERING solutions provider EA Technology has managed to slash carbon emissions from its global headquarters in Capenhurst, while also saving thousands of pounds, and is now working to share its efforts with other businesses.

The company’s headquarters, on Capenhurst Technology Park near Chester, has seen work take place since 2020 to decarbonise it and reduce electricity and gas usage.

Work is still ongoing but thanks to the progress made, the company is saving more than £21,000 a year and reducing its carbon dioxide emissions by almost 40 tonnes a year.

This has been achieved through the installation of solar panels, electric vehicle chargers, a battery storage system, more than 1,000 LED lights, renovation and improved insulation, a VRF temperature management system, system monitoring and smart central heating.

EA Technology are also now implementing a Building Management Energy System to optimise the use of the batteries, VRF system and EV chargers.

Thanks to this, electricity use has fallen from more than 30,000kwh in April 2015 to less than 20,000kwh in July 2022 and gas usage has fallen in similar proportions.

EA Technology’s Chairman and CEO Robert Davis, is a co-chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Commission, which is aimed at making Cheshire the greenest and fairest place in the country.

A Journey to Net Zero Event was recently held at the company’s headquarters, giving other businesses the chance to see their work first hand, learn from it and also find out more about how businesses can work wit the SIGC on making Cheshire and Warrington greener.

Robert Davis, EA Technology Chairman and CEO and co-chair of the Cheshire and Warrington Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Commission, said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to decarbonise our headquarters. It’s not just helping us to save thousands of pounds, but also allowing us to protect the planet by reducing our carbon emissions.

“We recently welcomed other businesses and partners to a Journey to Net Zero event at our headquarters as part of the work to promote the plans developed by the Cheshire and Warrington Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Commission.

“The commission is aimed at making Cheshire and Warrington the most sustainable and inclusive place in the country, and has made a number of recommendations – including on Net Zero, Sustainable Transport and Sustainable Land Use.

“Our ambitions include the full decarbonisation of all transport by 2035 and providing new infrastructure and support for electric cars and zero-emission vehicles to make them cost effective and accessible.

“We want to work with businesses on the opportunities and challenges presented by decarbonisation and I hope those that we welcomed here gained a fuller understanding of the work going on across Cheshire and Warrington as we look to work together to achieve these aims.”

Cheshire and Warrington SIGC is currently promoting its final recommendations as it looks to work with stakeholders, residents and businesses to collaborate and achieve its aims.

Sam Corcoran, Leader of Cheshire East Council and co-chair of the Cheshire and Warrington SIGC, said: “To achieve our aims around Net Zero, everyone has a role to play, including businesses.

“It was great to get partners and other businesses together at EA Technology to showcase ways of  reducing carbon output. Reducing carbon emissions is needed to protect the environment and it saves money as well.

“We’re continuing to work across Cheshire and Warrington to promote our game-changing plans for the region. We want to work with business to make these sustainable and inclusive plans a reality.”
