5 Ways to Beat the Cost of Living Crisis in Business

The cost of living crisis is currently proving to hugely impact businesses

However, there are a number of life hacks you can employ to help you manage your business expenditure more effectively in the current economic condition to ensure you continue to get the best value for your money.

  • Tap into as Many Renewable Sources as Possible

Renewable energy sources are a much cheaper alternative to drawing from the grid due to the high cost of electricity, so you might want to invest in some solar panels, or wind turbines to help reduce your reliance on the grid.

You can contact companies to install solar panels to your business to help you save money in the long term, and they will give you an initial quote for the cost of installation.

  • Install Double Glazing

Double glazing, although not the cheapest option, is one of the best investments you can have for a business. Not only will it reduce your heating bills, but it will help you maintain your offices or workspace by keeping the temperature consistent and reducing the likelihood of damp problems.

Window specialists like Halifax Glass can help you find the best windows to fit your business, whether you choose to opt for full length, or smaller windows,

  • Keep in Contact with Your Customers

Your customers are your life force during these hard times, so keep in touch, and keep bringing them back for your products or services!

If you’re a high street business, customer footfall is important, so having bright windows with good commercial design and an eye for detail will have customers stopping and contemplating whether to come in and browse your goods.

If you don’t already have one, creating a monthly newsletter may be a good way to keep customers informed of any current offers you’re running, or events.

Additionally, chatting to customers while they’re browsing or purchasing will make them feel comfortable and they will be more likely to come back at a later date.

  • Work From Home If You Can

If you have a small enough team, you can reduce your business costs by working from home either as a full remote model, or part-time in a hybrid model. This will mean you can close your offices down completely aside from client meetings (if applicable), or else only open them on set days each week.

In addition, research from the Office of National Statistics in February 2022 shows that 78% of people who worked from home for at least part of the week had a better work-life balance.

  • Use the Energy Bill Relief Scheme

The Energy Bill Relief Scheme applies from 1st October 2022 to 31st March 2023, and will involve an automatic discount to energy bill costs for non-domestic consumers.

This scheme will take some of the burden of paying high energy bills from businesses, and energy suppliers will be compensated for the loss by the government.
