Andy Murray ruled out of Wimbledon after back surgery

Andy Murray is set to miss Wimbledon this July after undergoing back surgery.

The two-time winner of the tournament withdrew from the warm-up match at Queens against Jordan Thompson in the first set.

He then confirmed he is considering surgery and according to The Daily Telegraph has now gone under the knife to correct another issue.

There is no official confirmation from Murray himself, but it is expected that this year will be the last time he makes an appearance at Wimbledon.

Speaking after his Queens retirement, he said: “During my pre-match warm-up I was pretty uncomfortable and then I walked up the stairs, just before going on the court, I didn’t have the normal strength in my right leg. It was not a usual feeling.

“Then the first two balls I hit in the warm-up, my right leg, it was, like, so uncoordinated. I had no coordination. Then, yeah, my right leg just was not working properly.

“There is nothing I could do, and then there is part of you that wants to go out there and see if it gets better, you know, and maybe feel better with a bit of treatment or something, but that wasn’t the case.

Murray had only recently returned after two months on the sidelines due to damaging ankle ligaments.

His career has been plagued by injuries but wanted to play in both the singles and doubles tournaments in the Grand Slam.

He has been awarded a place at the Paris Olympics at the end of July if he can return before then.

Murray is due to play in the singles and doubles alongside Dan Evans.

It could be his last major event before the 37-year-old calls it a day and retires.
